2f. Thinking & Deciding

It can be mind-boggling to wonder how an organ made of cells and tissues can think thoughts and make decisions. While the science behind this is complex and not fully understood, here are a few bullet points on the basics:

  • Your frontal lobes do most of the thinking and deciding work.
  • The lobes can hold one thought and compare it to other ideas.
  • To help make decisions, information from the senses and stored memories are accessed in other parts of the brain.

Fast Fact

Your decision making skills aren’t fully developed until you’re about 25 years old. This doesn’t mean you can’t make good decisions though! For now, work on taking a few extra minutes to think through the consequences of your decisions, rather than reacting quickly.
