2g. Speaking

By your first birthday, you could probably say a few words. Despite it being so easy a baby could do it, speaking is actually a very complex brain process. Your temporal, parietal and frontal lobes work together to plan what you’re going to say and then coordinate the muscles in your mouth and throat to speak.

There’s an area in the temporal lobe on one side of your brain that helps you understand speech. It’s almost always located on the opposite side from the hand you write with. So if you’re right handed, speech is interpreted on the left side of your brain and vice versa.
