Welcome to the Supporting a Loved One with an Addiction course.

Watching someone you care about struggle with addiction can be heartbreaking, overwhelming, and emotionally exhausting. If you’re supporting a loved one through this journey, you’re not alone.
In this course, you’ll learn what addiction is, how to recognize its signs and symptoms, and practical ways to support your loved one while also caring for your own well being. You’ll also explore how addiction affects families, learn about treatment and recovery options, and discover resources that can provide guidance and support along the way.

Course Length: 60-90 minutes

At the end of the course, you will:

  • Explain what addiction is and how it affects the brain
  • Recognize possible signs of a substance use disorder (SUD)
  • Describe how addiction impacts individuals and families
  • Identify healthy ways to support a loved one without enabling them
  • Understand the basics of interventions and treatment options
  • Practice strategies for setting boundaries and caring for yourself
  • Locate resources and support for adults and youth
