Legal status of marijuana in Wisconsin

As of today, Wisconsin has not legalized marijuana for any purpose. However, our state is surrounded by other states who have. This poses a very real problem for Wisconsin citizens who want to keep their children safe from marijuana. Because of our close proximity to marijuana-legal states like Michigan and Illinois, accessing the drug can be  as simple as a drive to a neighboring state.

Review the map below to see just how close we are to legal marijuana.

What about CBD?

Currently, CBD is legal in Wisconsin. You don’t need a medical card to use it, but be careful as some CBD contains trace amounts of THC.

Delta 9 vs Delta-8 THC

Delta-9 THC is the cannabinoid that makes you feel “high.” So what’s the big deal about Delta-8? Delta–8 is found in the hemp plant, and is similar to Delta-9. This means it also has some of the same risks at high concentrations, like addiction and psychosis.

Why does this matter? Congress passed the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized hemp and hemp products. The result? Delta-8 THC also became legal through this loophole. While Delta–8 is found in very low concentrations in hemp, products with highly concentrated versions are legally available in nearly every state, including Wisconsin.
